In 1987, Leiter, Perez & Associates started to specialize in environmental audits and hazardous waste cleanup studies including asbestos evaluation in buildings. Work performed on the many projects includes many miles of sewage force main designed and put under contract. Water main design performed on these projects includes many miles of water distribution and transmission mains put under contract. The types of installation on these projects varied with subaqueous, aerial (suspended from a structure or on piling), jacking and boring, or direct burial being used in placing the pipe. Gravity sewers designed and put under contract on the many projects amount to many miles of pipe. Most sewers terminate in pumping stations within a relatively short distance, so many pumping stations were included in the design work. Pumping stations varied in size. The station types designed included flooded suction, suction lift, air lift, vacuum, submersible, or grinder submersible units. Most projects in subdivision and municipal work include design of site drainage for the development and also design of grades and pavement for streets throughout. Many times street work includes modification and widening on County and State highways. The firm has worked for many years in the geographical area of Miami Beach from the South end to North Miami Beach. It has worked extensively in Fisher Island, Coscan Waterways, Aventura and Brickell Key. Drainage master plans and stormwater runoff design using alternatives means of disposal such as deep well injection, slab covered trenches, french drains, retention and detention basins have been used throughout in order to achieve the most cost effective means of disposal. The surveying group has been involved with much of the development work done. They are equipped with the latest type of office and field technology. Field crews use total station equipment with EDM and data collectors. The office personnel have computers, software, and plotters to produce plats for surveys and drawings for contract documents.
